This is an epistolary novel of about 460 pages. It is entirely composed of memos, emails, and various legal documents told from the point of view of Sophie Diehl, a young criminal attorney who is drafted by her boss to handle a divorce. The divorce, of course, is rather long and drawn out, being between a very wealthy oncologist and his wife. This book reads really quickly and is loads of fun. Part of the fun is because Sophie slips a number of literary references in her notes and emails and the book is fairly oozing with them. Some of them went over my head, some were pretty overt, and others still were very slyly inserted. Along the way, Sophie learns a thing or two about divorce and the law and friendship and family. A fun read for sure!
Written entirely in letters, legal documents, and emails this novel tells the story of a young legal associate taking on her first (and hopefully only) divorce case. Not the happiest of books-given the subject matter that is expected. But, the author does a great job fleshing out the characters using this unique style. If you aren't familiar or even remotely interested in legal jargon this book is not for you.
I couldn't get into it. I passed it off to a friend!
A wonderfully entertaining read. I couldn't put it down.
I look forward to reading more from this author.

The Divorce Papers tells a story through the official documents - affidavits, court papers, interview transcripts - and the correspondence - emails, memos, letters - associated with a divorce case. It is the story of the heartbreak when a marriage ends. It is the story of the intrigues and politics of a law firm. It is the story of the sometimes laugh-out-loud funny trials and tribulations of young attorney Sophie Diehl.
