I really wish that the cozy writers would get away from the tired 'cop as love interest' story element. Other than that, I really enjoyed this 1st novel. Sophie was a likable character and her rival Natasha is just nice enough that you don't totally hate her. LOL

I finished this book hungry! There is a plethora of eating in this story. I can't imagine how they aren't all big as houses at this point.

The story occurs over the Thanksgiving holiday and includes a stuffing baking contest that both Sophie & Natasha are contestants in. The extended cast includes Sophie's ex, his family, and Sophie's family and neighbors. They are all a little bit kooky and there may or may not be a resident ghost. And to keep the animal lovers interested, there is both a dog and a cat in residence. :O)

Sophie Winson and Natasha Smith have been rivals since high school and now, somewhere in their 40s, with Natasha stealing Sophies husband, their lives are once again thrown together with a local Stupendous Stuffing Contest - the winner receiving the Golden Turkey Award. Ohh, Ahh, but really, the winner also gets a cooking special on the local channel.

Both being accomplished cooks with Natasha taking on the more dominate Martha Stewart role, Sophie sets off to do her home style type of simple cooking which sets off Natasha even more. With the support of friends and family, Sophies life is good, that is until on her way out of a supermarket Sophie stumbles across the body of a man who was previously trying to pawn off a kitten her. Who also just happens to have a picture with her name in his truck Well, thats curious.

One body is bad enough, but the day of the actually competition the head judge is found murdered and Sophie just is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whats a domestic diva to do, well, you treat your house guests to a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, solve two crimes and get the lead detective to realize that life would be pretty boring without you around. For a Diva, thats as simple at pumpkin pie.

This is a very funny light mystery with a wonderful cast of characters, who each seem to have their own stories to tell, that will have the reader following for a long time to come.

I absolutely loved this book. This was one of those that grabbed me right from the first page. Very humorous, lots of action, great plot and absolutely no way did I figure out who did it until all was revealed. Have already started book #2!

Cozy, but for me it was full of too much description and moved really slow. Likable characters and I will try #2 and see how they develop and how it moves along. I love cozies, but I like them to move at a faster pace. Very twisted and a lot of characters, several threads of the story that needed to come together.

Good series, interesting characters and an inventive plot.

Sophie Winston search for the perfect holiday turkey takes a basting when she stumbles across a corpse. And when the police find her name and photo inside the victim's car, they think she has some explaining to do. Sophie will have to set her plans for the holiday aside to solve the murder or she'll be serving up prison grub - amd that definitely wouldn't be a good thing!

Once I start reading any thing by this author Krista Davis, I absolutely can not put the books down. This was no exception. I LOVED this one. I could see it all in my head, I longed for Thanksgiving and the family together with all the wonderful treats and dinner items talked about in this book. I loved the mystery and the trouble Sophie the main character kept getting herself into. Many times I talked out loud, laughed out loud ect..I have to have the rest of the series. This is book one, though I read The Diva Haunts the House first and I think all of the books could stand alone, however there is character development. I love the kitten, "Mouchie" and the dog, "Daisy" in these books. I love Sophie's home, I love her mean friend, Natasha, she is terrible and drives you nuts, you want Sophie to tell her off or smack her face. I love that in books, something that gets you riled up. I love all of the characters, she really pegs them to a tee, the description is awesome, short and sweet not all drawn out. I am gonna read the Christmas one next, I cant stop with these. Get it now!

First in the series and the first I've read by this author. Enjoyable read. A little bogged down in cooking/ingredient details, but an enjoyable read.
