An interesting tale of a family and their close ties. While I MUCH prefered Ursu's first book (Spilling Clarence) this one wasn't horrible.
If you don't like never getting the answer- this may not be for you.
A child disappears and then reappears but it is never told where he went. There is not a tale of what happened- no stories told- it just has to be accepted that he returned.

If you can suspend disbelief and stop mentally asking "but where did he go?" then this is a good read. I found myself a bit frustrated by this question, but did otherwise enjoy this read.

A little too deep for my tastes.

This book had so much promise but it never delivered. A family goes to a magic show and their shy little boy is chosen as a volunteer for the last trick. The clown makes him "dissappear". At the end of the show the boy never returns to his seat.

The book takes you through the next few weeks with the family and how they are dealing with their greif. What happened to James? THe police do all that they can to help but everything comes up empty.

I won't ruin the ending for you here but just enough to say that the ending was very, very dissappointing to me. Too many unanswered questions....especially a BIG one!

This book is so much more than a trite story about a disappearance. It is a deep emotional journey that allows the reader to become engrossed in this family and in the situation. At first I was disappointed by the ending, but then I realized it ended the way it did because that was not what mattered. What mattered was the interactions, the family, the situation and how the reader felt while reading it. This would be a great book club read, don't sell this one short, there is so much more meaning there.
