Are you ready for a lifetime movie of the week? well, here it is! starring Lori Loughlin and a McDermott (doesn't matter which one)
This story revolves around Liv 40th birthday party that she has saved for 20 years for this day-really? who thinks that far ahead? so the 'chapters' are the timeline of the day of the party (boring)
The story not only revolves around the party of the year but also around the 'secrets' of their daughter, ho hum
So Liv has a secret about Marnie that Adam (Dad) doesn't know and might ruin the rest of his life, but in the meantime Adam is keeping a secret from Liv about Marnie so her party won't be spoiled---get the drift?
These two 'secrets' consume the entire book along with the 'perfect party' for a 40 year old--oh! and her estranged Mother shows up after 20 years--drama
I'm having a hard time not giving any spoilers here but just let me say--the secrets? really aren't worth your time to read this book

I love all books by B. A. Paris, but this was a little too Hallmark-movie-dramatic. It wasn't the usual psycho-thriller that Paris writes. And it IS a dilemma that could have been avoided, but then we wouldn't have a book.
Livia (mom) didn't get to have the huge wedding her parents dreamed of because she got pregnant at 17....oh the horrors! So she has dreamed, planned, and saved for a huge party to celebrate her 40th birthday. Not a trip with family, not a scholarship fund for needy kids, nope, she wants the bash of a lifetime and has thought about it and dreamed of the perfect night for 20 years. (sigh)
Adam (dad) goes along with it because he loves Liv but finds out some horrifying news on the day of the party. He can't completely confirm the news so doesn't share with Livia so she can have her big bash.
The dilemma comes when Livia has learned info about their daughter three weeks before the party but keeps it from Adam. And Adam keeps his news from Livia. I won't share more but it would make a TV movie for some network, I'm sure. (another sigh)

It's Livia's 40th birthday, and her husband Adam is throwing her the party of a lifetime to make up for the wedding they never had. Everyone she loves will be there, except her daughter Marnie, who's studying abroad. But Livia is secretly glad Marnie won't be there.
Livia has recently uncovered a secret about their daughter which, if revealed, will shake the foundation of their family to its core. She needs to tell Adam, but she's waiting until the party is over so they can have this last happy time together.
Adam, meanwhile, has his own surprise for Livia: he's arranged for Marnie to secretly fly back for the party. But before Marnie arrives, Adam hears some terrible news. Now he too is faced with a dilemma: Does he share what he's learned with his wife? Is hiding the truth the same as telling a lie? And how far are Adam and Livia willing to go to protect the ones they love;and give each other a last few hours of happiness?
I really liked this book a lot. Livia and Adam both had a surprise to tell after the party. When she broke the story she had for Adam, they both were talking about the same story but different events arose. Finally the truth was told but not to the anger that Livia held. I don't want to tell what the secret was so you will have to read the book to find out. But the things that happen after the truth is let out shows us how they handled the surprise. It is a tear-jerking story so have the tissues ready. If you like a good cry then you need to read this book. I look forward to my next B.A. Paris book as I find her books amazing but not always liked by others.
