"If I Die in a Combat Zone" and "The Things They Carried" should be mandatory reading in High School. Tim O'Brien is one of the most under-celebrated American writers today. His works reach into your heart and soul, forcing you to understand what it was to be a Vietnam soldier and how the mind copes with such horrific violence.
