The diary isn't quite enough to fill a whole book, there's 16 pages on the 1806-07 campaign, 10 pages on the 1809 campaign, and 78 pages on the Russian campaign. There's very little about the fighting, it's mostly accounts about how he found enough to eat and wear. It sounded like one big culinary catastrophe. The author (Jakob Walter) wasn't much of a storyteller, a lot is just listing the towns they went through and the interesting sights to see.

The diary of an 18-year old German stonemason who served in Napoleon's army. Includes letters from the Russian front (previously unpublished in English) and period engravings and maps from the Russian/Soviet and East European collections of the New York Public Library.
