If this first installment in the Seduction Diaries series is any indication of what to expect in its follow-up stories, sign me up because I had a jolly good time following the misadventures of Miss Clare Westmore. Who knew wallflowers could end up snagging the guy? I mean, every invisible and ignored cast-off dreams of magically snagging the prize, but sometimes the prize isn't the one envisioned. In Clare's case, she falls for the financially challenged Dr. Daniel Merial instead of the next Duke of Harrington.

Oh, Clare's a bit of a snob who is constantly worried over potential scandal and victimized by ill-chosen friends with mean streaks a mile wide. Nevertheless, inside she's really a good girl who loves, but is completely exasperated with, her unmanageable younger siblings and distant parents. Moreover, she can't quite figure out what to make of the handsome young doctor and of her growing feelings for him.

Daniel Merial was fun to get to know, too. He was ambitious, determined, and, well, fresh in that he was a working man and not an aristocrat. Watching him dodge the amorous attentions of his very lonely and recently widowed landlady often made me laugh aloud.

Engrossing subplots also had me eagerly turning the pages. How could I not want to know about the nasty rumor involving Clare's parentage or the reasons behind her parents' marital discord? Just why did her brother get expelled from school? Most intriguing of all, why did the future Duke of Harrington run warm, cold, then warm again? Overall, this story is lighthearted and great fun with a cast of down-to-earth characters you can't help but warm up to. Enthusiastically recommended at 4 stars.
