Sad, interesting story about Haitian immigrants and those they leave behind. Very thought provoking. Beautifully written -- lovely language and believeable characters.

If you've liked Danticat's other books, you'll love this one. Interesting premise, really pushes you to think about the personal v. the political and the nature (& limitations) of forgiveness. This is my favorite of her books, but still not quite my cup of tea.

not what i thought it would be like.
Great story with rich characters. Danticat reveals the history of the father character slowly as we understand the social-environment and other related characters. Well written. Good read! susan
The Dew Breaker (torturer) moved from Haiti to Brooklyn. This is a wonderful story of love, remorse, and hope as well as political rebellions. Fast read.
What a remarkable author. This book is written like a puzzle that all comes together in the end.

Confusing. The stories were not woven together for the reader to make connections between the characters.
