This 2nd book of the trilogy has Devlin feeling less the doomed man who only becomes the Chosen One so he can die to feeling like he's been destined to become the Chosen One by the gods. He doesn't really like this at all. But the quest this time is to find the lost Sword of Light back in his old home region of Duncaer where it was the instrumental weapon leading to the loss of their freedom of that region to the Jorskians' rule. The feeling of threat from some unknown force is getting stronger but Devlin has to leave anyway to find the sword that is lost before he can fight the threat that is coming. It is hard for him to go home. This book is better than the first because there is less world-building and more action that is a little more believable. I enjoyed it. Not hard to read at all.
