Coulter's debut historical romance, reissued for the first time since its original publication, has been updated and edited for new readers. The story involves an 18th-century lord who will stop at nothing to win over the heart of a beautiful woman on the eve of her wedding to another man.

I had read the reviews before I ordered this. In fact, the reviews were why I ordered the book. They said it was so horrible, and I really had to see for myself.
I have to agree with the majority about the rape bit. Not very conducive to a love story in my opinion. And I didn't buy any of it. How she could be so overtaken by her desire for a man who had kidnapped and forced her the first time (or just about every time)was just frankly, unbelievable.
The part where he "beat" her. I'm not sure about that part. Obviously he didn't want to. And obviously he felt horrible about it. It was just odd.
In fact, the whole story is just odd. I'm not even sure I'm going to finish it. I may be about half way through, but I feel I've a good enough taste of it to know that I just don't care for it. If I could rate it "No stars" I would. Sorry Ms. Coulter.

I really enjoy heer Historicals. Her characters are easy to identify with and imagining yourself as the heroine is easy. Coming back to really sucks after reading her books.

From Inside Flap:

Dear Reader:

Welcome to my very first historical romance, Devil's Embrace, titled by my husband, and first published in 1982. I've updated it stylistically, edited it, trimmed it up just a bit, and the art department designed a splendid new cover that magically includes some of the original artwork.

Cassie Brougham and Anthony Welles, Earl of Clare, are my favorite characters of all time. Cassie has known the Earl of Clare all her life, but she's in love with a soldier she's been secretly writing to since she was fifteen. Now he's home and they're going to be married. But the day before her wedding, Anthony Welles kidnaps her aboard his yacht and sails away with her to Genoa, Italy; his stated intention to make her his wife.

Cassie is not happy about this.

This is an unusual love story, to say the least, that will make you weep and laugh and root for what you know is best for both of them. There is pain, doubt, captivation, and escape. But regardless of what happens, this is a love that is of the forever sort, something that is true and very real, and will stay close to your heart, I hope, for a very long time.

If you missed Devil's Embrace the first time around, do read it now.
