My favorite of GH's books. A "mad, bad and dangerous to know" hero who just oozes sex appeal and the heroine who tames him. Although there are no erotic scenes, since it is GH, you won't miss them at all. What a writer she was! There are some hilarious scenes & dialogue that make me laugh no matter how many times I've reread the book, especially Rupert and his cases of wine. And you get to revisit the characters from "These Old Shades". 5+ stars.

Oh, who doesn't fall in love with Vidal? He's great, and Mary Challoner is a wonderful complement to his personality- one of Heyer's most popular, and with good reason!

An early Heyer novel with interesting characters, a strong heroine, and Heyer's usual excellent writing with it's touches of pathos and humor.

Her mother's matchmaking schemes were to set up her sister with the Marquis of Vidal. - so she tries to protect her sister and winds up getting kidnapped. A fun love story.

This book was great! Another grey eyed beauty and synical man meet and clash and......just great. Favorite scenes: of which I have a few,
When she shoots him!
When he appears in full ball dress (yum)
When she meets his father..........just great.
If your a GH fan you'll love this one. The added bonus is that it is the last of about 3 books? pm me for a list as I don't have it handy-it's either The Black Moth and These Old Shades but I can't remember the order.

Miss Mary Challoner was innocent in the ways of love, but not ignorant of the ways of the world. She knew very well what kind of man the Marquis of Vidal was, and what he wanted of Marys exquisite sister, Sophia. Sophia, however, would not heed Marys warning that the breathtakingly handsome Vidal was the most scandalous seducer in the realm. Which left Mary with only one way to keep Soophias virtue intact She had to throw herself into Vidals clutches, trusting her wit and nerve to get her out safely. Unfortunately, there was one thing that Mary could not trust, her heart.
