This book is a fun historical romance. Light and fun and full of roguish romance. It starts out in the typical way. Man steals woman to make another suffer, man finds woman surprisingly attractive, woman finds man surprisingly attractive, both find themselves in each others arms and win over the bad man she was about to be married. Now, yes, I did just basically tell you the story, but that formula is as old as perhaps the castle under contention. :) What I liked about this story is that the woman has her own mind and finds strength within her capture. Even though she does rely on Jamie's physical prowess to keep her safe, her wits and inner strength keep her up to the challenge of a bunch of burly men and the highland wilderness. Yes, I liked Emma. She was a good match for Jamie. You don't always find that within these types of stories. I also loved Jamie although there were times I could hit him over the head for being so stubborn.
All in all I give this book 4 stars. It's a fun, light historical romance. If you love a roguish man in a kilt, sexy time in an abandoned church you will enjoy this book.

Good book! The characters were thoroughly developed and truly likeable; I very much enjoy strong willed, spirited female lead characters. Emma and Sin were quite good. The plot was well developed and had a number of good twists and unexpected bumps in the road. I very much enjoyed this and will look forward to other stories by Teresa Medeiros.

THE DEVIL WEARS PLAID by Teresa Medieros is a wonderful historical romance set in Scotland. It is well written with details, depth, fast paced and a page turner. It has romance, sensuality, intrigue, adventure, retribution, betrayal,secrets,Highlanders, English bride, friendship, tragedy, full of passion. The characters are enchanting, and full of passion. The hero, Jamie, is handsome, dangerous, a Sinclair,and the grandson of a Hepburn. He is determined to find justice for the death of his parents by who he believes killed them, a Hepburn. The heroine, Emma, is defiant, beautiful, high spirited and determined to fulfill her family's obligation. She is betrothed to the old Hepburn laid but is kidnapped by Jamie Sinclair on the day of the wedding for Ransom. What follows is an adventure, passion, finding what is truly important and fulfilling your dream of happiness. This is a wonderful story of true love, passion, forgiveness, and finding happiness. I would highly recommend this book especially if you enjoy Scottish love stories.

I liked this story quite a bit. The characters meshed well together and you pulled for them to have their happy ending.
The secondary characters were amusing and interesting.
The story line started a little iffy for me with the typical martyr heroine saving her family from ruin by marrying a rich old man, but it changed from that rather quickly. The ending even surprised me a little.

This book had a lot of the old cliched plot devices, a gruff Highlander on horseback barging in on a wedding, kidnapping the bride, holding her for ransom...you get the picture. But you know, for being cliches, I've actually only ever read one story where the hero barged in on a wedding (Karen Marie Moning's To Tame a Highland Warrior). So for me, this was all new.
The beginning cracked me up because our heroine Emmaline is being married off to some old goat (pardon) ahem, a randy old goat, to save her father from debtor's prison. What was so funny is that she's 22 and the audience is talking about how lucky she is to be marrying the old earl, and how old she is,and how she's very lucky the old earl has enough experience in bed ::snicker:: to satisfy her.
But alas, as they are saying their vows, several men burst in with guns, and the man on horseback, Jamie Sinclair, tells the old earl he's here for his bride. he abducts Emma and takes her high into the mountains where the earl's men will never find them.
The majority of this story takes place while on the run, and Emma has known nothing but a kindly old man who wants an heir, whilst Jamie knows the true evil in the old goat's soul.
I actually think it got a bit slow towards the middle, but once the two realized they were in love, and he was still going to ransom her off, it really picked up!
Since the earl had been suspected of killing Jamie's parents when he was a babe, Jamie wanted proof. It came from a very unlikely source, and it was so not what we were expecting!!! In a "wow," way, not in an "out of left field" kind of way.
But the oh so predictable ending I'd predicted was...Wrong!
I was totally surprised at what had happened and I was soo endeared to Ian, the old earl's great-nephew and Jamie's best friend when they were younger. (there's a long story there, that I was incredibly happy with the outcome)
And watching Emma blossom under the kidnapping ordeal was great. She changed just enough to stay true to her character.
The ending was a bit of a muddle, thought IMHO. I think the ending with Jamie, Emma and Ian was brilliant, however, the old earl's comeuppance was a bit much. And too easy. Hence, the muddle.
But I'd re-read this one, and definitely suggest to other fans in need of a good Highland romance
