Informative. I found the first of the book interesting and the latter almost boring.

This historical narrative of the Salem witch trials takes its dialogue from actual trial records but applies modern psychiatric knowledge to the witchcraft hysteria. Starkey's sense of drama also vividly recreates the atmosphere of pity and terror that fostered the evil and suffering of this human tragedy.

I loved this book. Whether or not the author's speculations as to the authenticity of the afflicted girls' testimonies are true or not, they do give the reader additional insight and provoke much thought. The witchcraft trials, and in particular those in Salem, Mass., are truly great tragedies.

"The reign of terror that swept Salem Village in 1692 is still the most celebrated of all witch hunts." Born in Massachusetts - author Marion Starkey - has published an authentic historical narrative. The dialogue is from actual trial records.
