oooh what a wild ride, 2nd in the series, this was even better than the first. MJ Holliday goes after Hatchet Jack in this installment. This book is fast paced and kept me guessing till the very end. A real page turner; you can expect to lose sleep on this one as you wont be able to put it down. This book has it all, Lot of mystery, ghosts, ghost hunting, murder, action , humor, and a little fluffy romance with Dr. Delicious. The ending had a huge twist that i wasnt expecting! What a great book. Best to read them in consecutive order. This book does not Dissapoint!

Victoria Laurie is hitting her stride with this book. Not as hokey as her first in the Ghost Hunter Series, What's a Ghoul to Do ( http://tinyurl.com/2qj6ke ). In this outing, the same cast of characters are hot on the trail of Hatchet Jack who is terrorizing Northelm Boarding School on Lake Placid. The headmaster is thwarting their attempt to rid this ghost because he can't risk the bad publicity, but with Teeko's persuasive ways, he soon opens up the school,: maybe there is more to hide than what he told them â" but what is a ghost hunter to do when children need her. Very funny moments, but still reminds me a bit of the Scooby-Do cartoon.

Victoria Laurie weaves humor, suspense & a sixth sense into her fun mysteries. I've become an avid fan of her stories. This one has MJ & Gilley chasing down Hatchet Jack...who chases young boys with a hatchet at a posh boarding school. Very good, an excellent summer beach read. 2nd in the Ghost Hunter Series. (her Psychic Eye series is also very good).

I like it when the story is plausible, for me its adds to the charm. Here you have a school with a ghost story that the students and teachers know about but don't really want to talk about (Hatchet Jack).
The romantic chemistry between the heroine and her love interest that the reader knows about purely because other characters keep saying "there's so much chemistry between you two!" Too bad we don't see any of it for ourselves.
The whole thing came together with plenty of ghostly suspense & action with humor thrown in for good measure. Once again, with the ending, I had part of it figured out, but not all of it.
It maybe me, but I just found something lacking in the story. I have the 3rd book in the series will try that before I throw in the sponge and read some other author.

Fun, fast read - this series about a ghost-busting psychic medium and her easily-spooked business partner Gilley has plenty of comedy mixed with dramatic supernatural mystery to keep you reading straight through the night. Nothing deep, just fun and likable characters doing slightly off-the-wall things, and some nasty ghosties to spook things right along.

Great book!
Victoria Laurie has been added to my top ten authors to read... Like I said after reading her first book nothing hooky.. Truly can tell a medium wrote the book from real experiences... Throw in some laughs and a bit of tears and you have a book that's hard to put down... Looking forward to book 3 "Ghouls just haunt to have fun" coming March 2009.
Honestly you won't be disappointed in reading this book, you'll just be sad you read it so fast...

a fun easy to read mystery that follows a Ghost Buster team to haunted school with a terrible history, covered up for years. There is an excited hunt for clues to the who, what and when in this story. I found myself laughing out loud with the main characters, great sense of humor. I recommend this series highly.

"What's a Ghoul To Do?" the first in the Ghost Hunter series was a really good book but this one just blew me away. This little mystery/ghost story had me on the edge of my seat. I just could not put this book down waiting to find out the story behind Hatchet Jack. I can't wait to read the third book in this installment. In fact, I have added all of Victoria Laurie's books to my Wish List. Don't let the cutesy cover fool you, this is a great book!

I liked the mystery (a ghost carrying a hatchet haunting a school) and of course there was much more to the story. What I didn't like as much were the characters. I found Gilley irritating in this one. Why did he have to be such an aggravating character in this one?! Steven's use and misunderstandings of slang, certain phrases, was no longer cute or funny. It was annoying. Karen (MJ's friend) is a stereotype too and I'm so over it. I've found I have no patience for things that annoy me.

I was impressed by the first book of the series, "What's a Ghoul to Do?", but this second volume was a little bit disappointing. Medium and professional ghostbuster MJ is asked by her friend Karen to investigate Hatchet Jack, the ghost who has terrorized her niece at her posh Lake Placid boarding school. The ghost or demon proves to be a very strong one that can actually inflict physical damage, and MJ has her work cut out for her. The story was fine, the mystery a good one, and the resolution at the end satisfying, but I found the dialogue a little forced and too preachy, the conversion of the skeptic detective to staunch ally a little too conveniently quick for my taste, and the attempt to keep some sexual tension flowing between MJ & Steve by delaying the inevitable for at least one more book a little too formula. However, if you ignore the little flaws, which is easy enough to do, the story flows well, with enough twists to keep the reader guessing until the end.

A fun, zany story. I hope the author continues this series for a long time to come and look forward to each installment.
Entertaining, good mystery, well written. One of a series but also a good stand alone. Characters are not quite believable, but that doesn't detract from the mystery story.

Need a book to break the tension? This paranormal series lights up the night! M.J. Holliday has the gift of communicating with the dead, although sometimes it doesn't feel like such a great gift - especially when the ghost is wielding an ax.
Every school has its bullies, but Northelm Boarding School near Lake Placid, NY, houses a real whopper: a lean, mean and deadly demonic ghost named Hatchet Jack. N.J.'s good friend Karen has asked her - along with partners Gilley and handsome Dr. Steven Sable - to send Hatchet Jack back to the portal he came from. M.J. has to deal with an uncooperative dean, Gilley being paranormally preyed upon and the tempting Dr. Delicious distracting her. But Hatchet Jack is M.J.'s biggest threat, and with a demonic disturbance of this magnitude she must show no mercy and see to it that Hatchet Jack gets detention for eternity - in hell.

Northelm Boarding School on Lake Placid has the worst bully of all-a demon by the name of Hatchet Jack. M.J. Holliday, along with her partners Gilley and the handsome Dr. Steven Sable, are ready to send him back to the portal from whence he came. The school's summer construction, an uncooperative dean, and the very tempting Dr. Delicious are all trying to distract M.J. from her ghost hunting. But with a demonic disturbance as great as Hatchet Jack, she must focus and show no mercy to send him to detention for an eternity-in hell.
