It's Star Trek meets Victorian London...a cute love story about a human man and a half human/half demon woman who have just about one of the steamiest and most graphic affairs I've ever read, but not exactly what I expected. When I saw demon, I expected demons...not humanoids with silver eyes. Guess I've read too many "Dark Hunter" novels and had Simi on the brain. ;-)

I did not find the world-building by this author to be at all convincing. It seemed to be a half-assed effort at best. Also, the way the sex scenes were written makes me think that Emma Holly is actually a man. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I have so recently read Sherrilyn Kenyon's fantastic Dark-Hunter series, but I was not at all impressed by this book and don't expect that I'll bother to read anything else by Emma Holly as a result.

Sci-fi meets romance novel, with some very steamy love scenes thrown in for good measure!

What a shame! The steampunk-styled storyline of a demond/human hybrid Dickensian London has so much potential and I was so excited to get lost in that world. But the book comes up short with dialogue that is mediocre if not trite at times. It's too bad because Roxanne is an interesting woman with many admirable qualities, and I really appreciated Holly portraying her as normal sized woman; how refreshing, but Adrian just never engaged me. Some sweet moments of kissing, but most of the romance scenes weren't particularly thrilling. Even the photo illustration (as handsome at that model is) doesn't jive in tone and style with the story.

This is a sexy fantasy novel who's main characters are an Inspector, Adrian, and a mixed breed artist, Roxanne. The setting is another world called The Aedlyne Empire Under Queen Victoria. Yamas are the elite of this world. They are a beautiful race and the only beings allowed to wear their hair down to their waist and below. Humans call Yamas "demons" which they're not. Humans are considered a lower class breed. One of the worst slums is full of lesser demons and humans. Into this filthy, dangerous mess, Inspector Adrian hunts for missing boys. After he's attacked by ruffians, left seriously injured, he is taken in by Roxanne who lives on the border of the slums. Under her ministrations, Adrian heals, they start an affair and a couple of mysteries are solved along the way. I recommend this book as it offers a fascinating view of another world whose morals and political machinations closely mirror our own world. I loved the 2 main characters and the 2 children Roxanne is fostering.

Her demon series continues with The Demon's Daughter where you find that the line between good and evil can be blurred but not easily forgotten by either side. In her demonic world filled with historical romance, Holly adds an element of erotic play that has you licking your lips as you turn the pages.

This was a very good book, it caught your attention, and your imagination, and teased it though the the whole book. There were some slow times, but all in all it was a very good read.

First novel I've read by her. It was quite good although there were a few phrases that she used repeatedly that began to grate on my nerves. It was otherwise well written with a good plot.

I read this book after reading Emma Holly's short story that was published with others in Hot Spell. It involved different characters in the same world and was good enough for me to pick up another novel in the series. I enjoyed this book but was a bit disappointed. The characters were a little flat and didn't develop along with the plot as much as I thought they should. Overall I would say this it fell a bit flat when compared with the potential of the first short story and the steampunk-esq setting, although the world is interesting enough for me to give any others from this series a go. Maybe Holly will improve the series with time.

What a hot mess! It took me over half the book to figure out what was going on. I still am not too sure. What's really confusing is the time era. Is it 18 century England or the 21 century or even the future? I didn't understand the social ranks either. Holly did a horrible job defining these things. Luckily every other page was a sex scene which was pretty much what held my attention through the book.

A great paranormal romance. Different from others I have read before and as with all of Emma Holly's books great erotic aspects as well.

Inspector Adrian Philips keeps the peace between demons and humans in Avvar, a city not unlike Victorian London. To do his job, he's allowed his strength to be enhanced by demon technology, a choice that's cost him his wife, his family, and-some would say- his humanity. Rejected by both races, he hungers for a woman's touch.

Roxanne McAllister is an outcast, too: the illegitimate daughter of an infamous chanteuse. One fateful night brings Roxanne and Adrian together and through the border between human and demon is treacherous, these two may be the ones to cross it. The question is will the exquisite pleasure they find together be worth the risk.....
