It's Star Trek meets Victorian London...a cute love story about a human man and a half human/half demon woman who have just about one of the steamiest and most graphic affairs I've ever read, but not exactly what I expected. When I saw demon, I expected demons...not humanoids with silver eyes. Guess I've read too many "Dark Hunter" novels and had Simi on the brain. ;-)

I did not find the world-building by this author to be at all convincing. It seemed to be a half-assed effort at best. Also, the way the sex scenes were written makes me think that Emma Holly is actually a man. Maybe I'm just spoiled because I have so recently read Sherrilyn Kenyon's fantastic Dark-Hunter series, but I was not at all impressed by this book and don't expect that I'll bother to read anything else by Emma Holly as a result.

Sci-fi meets romance novel, with some very steamy love scenes thrown in for good measure!

What a shame! The steampunk-styled storyline of a demond/human hybrid Dickensian London has so much potential and I was so excited to get lost in that world. But the book comes up short with dialogue that is mediocre if not trite at times. It's too bad because Roxanne is an interesting woman with many admirable qualities, and I really appreciated Holly portraying her as normal sized woman; how refreshing, but Adrian just never engaged me. Some sweet moments of kissing, but most of the romance scenes weren't particularly thrilling. Even the photo illustration (as handsome at that model is) doesn't jive in tone and style with the story.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. An alternate world filled with intrigue and passion.

I read this book after reading Emma Holly's short story that was published with others in Hot Spell. It involved different characters in the same world and was good enough for me to pick up another novel in the series. I enjoyed this book but was a bit disappointed. The characters were a little flat and didn't develop along with the plot as much as I thought they should. Overall I would say this it fell a bit flat when compared with the potential of the first short story and the steampunk-esq setting, although the world is interesting enough for me to give any others from this series a go. Maybe Holly will improve the series with time.
