Arthur is a man of regular habits. Which include spying on his neighbors, arranging the mail on the table in the lobby (and noticing who the senders are), scrubbing his flat constantly (Auntie Gertie brought him up as a cleanliness-loving boy), doing his laundry every Sunday without fail, and never missing a day of work. He is fully in control of his life and likes it that way. And when one of those uncontrollable urges comes over him, he deals with that by sneaking into the cellar and strangling a mannequin. After all, he does not necessarily want a repeat of what happened twenty years ago!

His life is interrupted when a new tenant moves in, who does not seem to go out very much - thus depriving Arthur from entering the cellar unobserved. Things get worse when this tenant organizes a Guy Fawkes Day bonfire and asks the landlord whether he can burn some of the junk in the cellar.

Creepy ... you are in Arthur's mind and see what is happening from his point of view! Great read!
