The story is not good enough; and the brutality does not help it

Helpful Score: 2
Gripping story about two different groups going after the same evil 'monster', meeting casually and not knowing about the other's plans. Couldn't put it down once I started. The torture descriptions are extremely graphic and very disturbing. I had to skip over some, and I have a relatively strong tolerance of written-violence. Story had a bit of romance, but it wasn't distracting from the suspense/thriller aspect.

I have read a substantial number of the nineteen books Baldacci has written (up to and including this one), and I must say, in the category of thrillers, this is his best one yet. I loved it. Although not essential, it helps a great deal (in order to have a full understanding of the characters, Shaw and Katie Jones, to first read Baldacci's The Whole Truth.

I loved this follow up to book 1, it was better than I could have expected. Baldacci never seems to leave any spots or options unturned.

Very well constructed mystery novel, many twists and turns, a throrghly enjoyable, hard to put down read. Baldacci is a masterful writer, I'm a great fan.
