This was my first by Kate Wilhelm, but definitely won't be my last. Wilhelm's style of writing is subtle and works its way under your skin. It's not a hardcore mystery or psychological thriller, but the author is able to draw you in so slowly and subtly that you don't even realize you're hooked. When Abby's father, Jud, a bestselling novelist is murdered in his lakeside cabin, Abby sets out to find out who the murderer is. Others around Abby believe they know who it is, but the dawning realization takes Abby a little longer to accept. Even better is Abby's father's ability to take actual events and people and change them just enough to use in his books. And, of course, the identity of Jud's murderer is hidden in his final novel. This is a wonderfully woven story with believable characters and events.

Enjoyable story about a daughter who Father is murdered at a remote cabin. There are no clues and no suspects. As she seeks the secrets of his life, through his published and non published books, her life become in danger. Kate Wilhelm is one of my fav authors.

Interesting book. I did like it but unlike others I had a hard time getting through the middle. The premise of the story was great and the unraveling of her fathers life and death was suspenseful & interesting. The only problem I had was that I could have easily skipped the middle of the book and not missed it at all.

Interesting novel!
Jud Connors, a succesful writer is found murdered in his cabin. His daughter cannot understand what has happened. She can't believe that anyone would want her father dead. She begins to investigate and finds that the killer's identity is hidden in her father's latest novel that he finsihed just weeks before he died. As she tried to figure out the clues, her own life is in danger. This book was awesome! Very suspenseful and full of suspicious characters, any one of whom could be the killer. It will keep you reading and guessing till the very end!
