Noted Florida mystery writer Randy Wayne White writing as Randy Striker in 1981. The protagonist is named Dusky MacMorgan. Almost as good as the current Doc Ford series.

Real early White. Not his best, but you can see the beginnings of Doc Ford
When a well known eccentric scavenger in Key West shows Dusky MacMorgan a golden chain, it's no ordinary trinket--it's the key to finding a treasure at the bottom of the sea.
