Instead of a smooth carpet of bottom sediment, he now stared at the unnaturally steep slope that looked as if it had been piled up by a gigantic underwater bulldozer. The alarm buzzer grew louder and tension inside the sub mounted further.
"Come right," Bob almost shouted. He thought he'd seen something rising out of the darkness.
Each man looked out the forward window at a sight different from any he'd encountered over hundreds of scientific dives in the deep ocean. The front of the sub was almost touching a seemingly endless slab of black metal rising out of the sea floor.
