As with most of Black's books, the characters are amusing but the rest is lacking. The plot has potential but is not well developed, the detail is non-existent and the ending is clipped. There are even scenes in this book that didn't make sense following earlier information given in the book. For example, why would hundreds of men pay to see 3 women strip when their women already wear see-thru clothes and have a marriage auction where the women are presented naked to the available men? It just didn't make a lot of sense.
I give this one star for the amusing characters. If you want an erotica romance that's an "easy" read due to the non-existent plot and lack of detail, then this book is for you.

This book was so awful, I'm embarassed for the author. Character development was nonexistent; even the sex scenes were trite and oh-so-awfully corny. She must have spit this out in one afternoon, & never bothered to proof-read it. Just awful!

"ive read better from Jaid Black. Having read this one, it amazes me that she runs an entire publishing company of books and a magazine.

I actually liked this book! I was only disappointed in the sex not being as frequent as I expected from this author. The characters are humorous in places and not too dramatic. Sort of like reading a harlequin romance with a little more steam.

i wish i'd read the reviews more carefully. this was pretty bad. not much of a story, terrible, terrible dialogue, cheesy. the worst part was the complete lack of research done on any of the subjects in the book. they're in the antarctic but nobody's ever cold, they have access to green food all the time, the sun always shines during daytime (winter will be dark even during the day), and goats can run around by themselves. then they go live underground in a giant underground city where they seem to have light and again green food but live in this otherwise medieval society. ummmm....so how do they grow food and have light? blech, my last book by jaid black i think.

Granted, I am reading for the smut - but don't insult me with this silly stuff. I like fun amongst the hot scenes, but the writing was hard to take. This was my first full-length novel of Jaid Black's and with her wonderful Ellora's Cave claim to fame I figured it was a good bet. Good thing I'm not going to Vegas.
If there is a Jaid Black novel worth my time, please let me know what it is - I might be willing to try again.
One star goes to the cover - nice packaging!

Madalyn Simon is done with Hollywood. Done with the fake, superficial world she's called her own for way too long. Madalyn comes to this conclusion during the middle of her own movie premier. She's done watching herself in ridiculous movies and literally walks out. Well, Madalyn does nothing half way and so when she decides to leave Hollywood, she moves to Alaska...far out in the artic outback she thinks she's found peace. But, when her sister comes for a visit and they decide to take a look at the local wildlife...well, lets just say this decision offers more wildlife then they planned on encountering. His name is Otar and he and three fellow Vikings can't take the chance of Madalyn and her sister Drake running around talking of them. So, they take them underground to New Sweden their underground home.

Another Viking tale from New Sweden. This is Otar & Madalyn's story. Funny at times and also very steamy.

This book is taken place in the Alaska. A group of Vikings living secretly in Alaska capturing women for wives. The love scenes were steamy. The male charaters are loveable and the female characters are no pushovers. I have read it over twice. I loved it!

I am not one for paranormal romance, but this one was more reality based and easier for me to get into the story. It helped that I have already read "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down" with "Hunter's Rights". I am also crazy for Jaid Black and that made it irresistible! Sexy, hot and a big alpha male--yummy. More New Sweden stories, PLEASE!!
I'm glad this wasn't the first Jaid Black book I've read! Completely silly.

I enjoy Black's Viking Underground series. Yes, her men are dominant, arrogant alphas, but they also have endearing qualities that make you adore them. Otar can come kidnap me any day. I'll even pretend to resist to make it look good.
I found Black's tactic of intertwining the series main characters together in "real time" - meaning instead of taking place one right after the other, they are taking place at the same time - to be intriguing. It's not so obvious that you have to already know the other characters they reference - just a nice realization as things are taking place in the civilization during the plot. It makes me wonder what other characters introduced are actually from other books that I haven't read yet.

Writing for "mainstream" publishers seems to have made Jaid lose her touch. This was not that great of a story. Her other Viking stories for Ellora's are much better & steamier.
