Of course I had heard and read of the Bataan Death March in the Phillipines in WWII and that it was a torturous forced march of captured American and Filipino soldiers and civilians but this book lays bare the extent of the horrific conditions the captured endured at the hands of their Japanese captors. The book is full of 1st-person accounts from Americans and Filipinos and much of it is hard to read.
For those interested in human stories of WWII, this book will sadden you but will also cause you to marvel at the tenacity of the human spirit
