When I finally finished this book I was really quite moved by the ending, particularly as I read the Author's Note that follows. I have read several of Grippando's books and have always enjoyed them but, for reasons I'm still not at all certain, up until the end I had an extremely difficult time staying with it. Unlike other of his books I had previously read, the story just never seemed compelling enough to drive me to read on after every several pages. The result was that it seemed to take me forever to get through it. Perhaps it was just me, but I frequently felt the author was simply meandering with lots of unnecessary sideline events that contributed little in my opinion to the main event and the key question, who killed Jamal? That is why I ended up giving it just 3 stars.
