#5 in the Hamish MacBeth series. A wealthy woman is killed when her car catches fire. Technically she died of a heart attack, but everyone in her household knew of her weak heart, so who was it who planted the incendiary device? Her mousy niece? One of the four gentleman suitors whom she'd invited so she could choose a husband? Or someone else? Hamish is on the case! Once again, his superiors want to write this off as an accident, but when Hamish finds proof that the car was made to catch fire and then another dead body turns up, it's pretty obvious that's not the case. As always, an enjoyable quick read.

Like all of Beaton books the Hamish MacBeth series is a not to be put down read. Maggie Baird has invited her neice and four former lovers, one of whom she had intended to pick for a husband, to stay with her at her Highland cottage. Maggies car catches fire, with Maggie in it and there are five likely perpetators right on the premises.

Another good Hamish Macbeth story
The fifth book in the series.
Hamish investigates the murder of a former "professional girlfriend".
Did her henpecked niece or one of her former lovers do her in?

A predictable mystery.
Hamish Macbeth just wants peace and instead he gets a murder and more suspects than he can count on one hand.
This is the first Hamish MacBeth mystery I've read, but it won"t be the last.
This was a good story. I enjoy reading clean books.

Inside Maggie Baird there still beats the heart of a tart. When her car catches fire and she dies, there are 5 likely suspects right at her house: Maggie's timid niece and four former lovers, one of whom Maggie had intended to marry. Finding the murderer will require Police Constable Hamish Macbeth's common sense and insight into human nature. This book is number 5 in the Hamish Macbeth series. The characters are ones that you love to hate and the plot is such that it causes you to keep reading until the very end of the book. I will definitely be reading more of Hamish Macbeth as he does have a spot in my heart. If you like books about cozy murders, then you will love this book.

I love Hamish Macbeth for his honesty and love of the simple lifestyle. In this book, Book 5, Hamish solves the murder of a Tart Without a Heart (his words). There is a new character added and some big changes for Hamish's love, Priscilla, at the end. As always, this is a fun and easy book to read.
