This is book 17 in the Melanie Travis series
Melanie gets a call from her Ex to help him. He is renovating their old home and has made a discovery and needs Melanies help. Bob introduces Melanie to Nick, a dog whisper. She is skeptical at first but there is something about Nick. He seems to connect with both people and dogs. When Nick is murdered, the family encourages Melanie to find the killer.
Laurien keeps you guessing to the end on the who did it. I really enjoyed this story, I just wished it had a different cover on the book.

I love Faith. I wish she were real and my dog. Normally a standard poodle is very intelligent, like Faith. And then there is Tar. Sweet but intellectually challenged Tar. He is the oldest male in the group and is not too smart. I get a kick out of him and the stunts he pulls. He is one of the 6 Standard Poodles, all of them show champions except for Augie, the puppy. Melanie Travis is a busy working Mom, with 2 sons (2 ½ and 11), a husband and the 6 poodles. Life is busy for her and then she is asked to help find the murderer of Nick Walden, a dog whisperer and all around nice guy. She had only met him recently and had introduced him to her notorious and feared Aunt Peg. Aunt Peg warmed to him right away because he was obviously a real dog person like she is. In this book Melanie and Sam (her husband) have their first real disagreement in their marriage. It's interesting to see how they resolve the issue. I like the dedication in her book to her faithful readers, even though there was a 5 year gap where she didn't write any books. I certainly have followed her since her first book and continue to enjoy them. They seem as fresh as the first one. Some series start to get old, but not Ms. Berenson's. I look forward to the next one (though not in series order), "Murder at the Puppy Fest" in 2017. Can't wait!
