I bought this as a fan of locked room mysteries and wasn't too disappointed. Like other mysteries translated from the Japanese I had a problem keeping the 14 characters straight in my mind, especially since the narrator uses both a character's first and second name interchangeably. The List of Characters helped, but still...

The solution to the deaths is appropriately convoluted and is explained at the end in great detail. A floor plan of the building the students are trapped in by the zombies helped visualize how things unfolded.

I didn't find this as fantastic as some reviewers, but I think part of that was my confusion about the various players. This is my fault being a Westerner, not the author's.

Also, the six page introduction by Soji Shimada was more about Japanese mystery literature history and not this book. (A last note is that there are many typeset errors where two or three words run together, which slows down the reading.)
