This is a good read. I liked Molly - despite her smoking and swearing - and she felt "real" to me with her anger and her determination and her savvy. No cardboard characters here. Decent plot, better than average writing.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. There were the typical errors (wrong names, etc), but I was so wrapped up in the story that I couldn't put it down. I am definitely looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

Molly came to Carmel to start a new life as a small community antique dealer and leave behind the notoriety of her past. But when she finds a body instead of a treasure at a local garage sale, the police have her pegged as a likely suspect - and that was before they learned her history.

Totally loved this book and all her books. What a great cozy mystery! I have ordered all of hers, wish she were still alive to continue. I highly recommend reading all of them. The characters are fun and different and it's an easy, delightful read. A++

Elizabeth Porter was a top-of-the-line Manhattan antiques dealer until her ex-husband and his lover's flagrantly criminal scam left her reputation in tatters. Now, using a new name, Molly Doyle, she's starting over a continent away in a rundown antiques shop in cozy Carmel, California.

Molly is determined to make the best of it, but the early antiques bird sometimes gets more than the worm, and one prompt arrival places her at a murder site with a corpse in her arms. After she turns up at a second seemingly unrelated death, the abrasive new police chief considers Molly the prime suspect. Now the only way to clear her name is for Molly to find her own path to a killer, which will leave her either exonerated...or dead!

First in a new-ish series. Kind of fun to learn about the world of antiques.

A surprising book. I read it because it was set in the start of the 20th century, but I finished it because I was intrigued by Molly and her adventures. The book shifts a couple of times from Molly in 1929 to a younger Molly just growing up. Well worth reading, I will be starting on the second book soon.
