Officer Jonathan Harding of the LAPD is having a rough life. His career is spiraling downward. His marriage is over. His mother's dying. And his long-lost father has just turned up - as a forty-year-old corpse. Soon a mysterious stranger offers him a satanic bargain; in exchange for a certain favor, he'll set Harding up in a new identity as a private investigator, so the cop can track down his father's killer. The catch? The best place to start the search is in 1949. And back then there were a lot of dangerous customers who didn't want this case closed. But Harding's determined to uncover the truth about his past even if it costs him his soul.
