This is actually the first volume of Daniel Way's run on Deadpool that I've read. I've gone through Kelly's classic run, Nicieza's Cable & Deadpool, and Duggan & Posehn's run and was running out of Deadpool to read. I have to say that I can already tell Way's writing doesn't appeal to me as much as the other writers I've named. I understand that the last Way volume ('Dead'?) is his best, so I will reserve judgement until I get there.

But for this volume, I think part of it is that this Deadpool doesn't seem to be striving towards any sort of change or goal; he just kind of exists to have mercenary hijinks. Admittedly the hijinks are entertaining, I did enjoy the story about his exploits with his wife and in-laws against the selfish moon. In its own way it's a classic.

One thing that struck me was the type of stories told were short arcs or one-offs that had kind of a little twist at the end, like the story with the Wrecker. They reminded me mostly of the kind of stories you'd get in 1970's horror comics. I think Daniel Way's Deadpool owes more of his lineage to old school monster stories or Jonah Hex comics that I remember reading as a kid than to traditional superheroes. Read for light entertainment and don't expect anything deep about Wade Wilson.
