David Miller is one of the most fascinating true crime characters I have run across yet. Fitting the classic profile of one experiencing a narcissistic personality disorder, as defined in the American Psyciatric Assn.'s DSM-III, this smart, charismatic, man was appealing to women and thrived on excitement. His sense of entitlement, along with his ability to lie successfully, resulted in his living multiple lives for a number of years. To his first wife, a beautiful, successful career woman, he was a CIA agent who was frequently gone on dangerous, covert assignments. While she worried, he carried on as a successful lobbyist in California, associating with politicians as well as other beautiful women. His downfall began when he met Jayne, a beautiful divorcee and successful purchasing agent, on an airplane trip between Orlando, Fl and Los Angeles. They "fell in love at first sight" and David decided he could also juggle two marriages - so they got married within a couple of months. He convinces Jayne that he an attorney as well as a millionaire. He had actually been quite successful as a lobbyist for some time and had enough money coming in to hire limos and wine and dine in the best places. Within a short while, David's management of his many different roles required so much of his time that he stopped spending money that was coming in and began using credit cards to continue his millionaire lifestyle. When he finally sprialed out of control after he was broke and about to be charged with bigamy by his two wives, one of his wives was dead. One can only wonder how so many people could be so fooled by this man, and also just how well one really ever knows another person.
