Just when you M.C. Beaton can not top herself, along comes this book. The best yet of the Agatha books. The plot twists and turns so much it keeps you guessing until the end. You can not put this one down! A great English Cozy.

Infuriated that her holiday was ruined by a mugging, Agatha Raisin decides to open up her own detective agency. The romance-minded sleuth is thrilled by visions of handsome fellow gumshoes and headline-making crimes-but soon finds the only cases she can get are a non-glamorous lot of lost cats and an errant teenager. But when a wealthy divorcee hires the agency to investigate a death threat against her daughter Cassandra, Agatha thwarts a vicious attack on the heiress bride. Now Agatha is in hot pursuit of the culprit.

This is my favorite Agatha Raisin so far. In it she begins to see herself as others see her ... sometimes. She is starting to recognize some of her less attractive traits & when she thinks of it, even correct them. The "new" Agatha is as feisty, cranky & rude as ever ... but a little more likeable. Don't worry though, she doesn't change so much we can't still love her & laugh at her exploits.

Opening a detective agency gives her a whole new range of cases to work on. Most are lost dogs & divorces, but you know Agatha ... if she's on the case, murder will creep in. In this book a deadly threat is acted upon & Agatha is there to save the day. There are all the elements we love, opinionated obstructive cops, Agatha's insecurities & cunning, dear Mrs. Bloxby & other friends, and new characters that definately spice things up. Plus plenty of twists & turns ... and a new love? You just never know.

If you like Agatha, I think you will enjoy this book.

You have to like MC Beaton. I like her Scottish detective Hamish more than Agatha Raisin. But they are a comfy read - sort of like an Agatha Christie. You know what you are getting but you don't mind. Good brain candy.

Agatha Raisin has opened her own detective agency--with interesting results. I actually like this series better this way--at least Mrs. Raisin, as her best friend the vicar's wife calls her, has a reason to keep finding bodies. By the way, M.C. Beaton also writes as Marion Chesney, for you historical romance fans out there.
