This is the first book I have read by Greg Iles and I will definitely read his other books. Although it didn't "scare the living daylights out of me" as promised on the cover, it was
a well-done and satisfying thriller. I recommend it highly to anyone who likes this genre with some thought and originality in a book.

From the jacket "They are called the "Sleeping Women," a series of unsettling paintings in which the nude female subjects appear to be not asleep, but dead. Photojournalist Jordan Glass has another reason to find the paintings disturbing: The face on one of the nudes is her own - or perhaps the face of her twin sister, who disappeared and is still missing. At the urging of the FBI, Jordan becomes both hunter and hunted in a search for the anonymous artist - an obsessed killer who seems to know more about Jordan and her family than she is prepared to accept..."

The most appealing thing about this book to me was that it was set in New Orleans in the year 2000 (pre-K). Mr Iles exhibits a prescience when he points out that N.O. is a bowl with a levee system that is not likely to hold up if and when the right hurricane comes along. He was not the only one to note this pre-K however and unfortunately it happened any way.

This was the fourth book by Greg Iles that I have read. It is worth noting I think that each of these books has been unique. Each experience has been a different journey. There is nothing serial about any of them. I envy his imagination and I'm thankful for the books.

I picked up this book quickly to read on a trip, and only realized later that the author was the same person who wrote THE TURNING ANGEL, which I had thoroughly enjoyed. His characters are not 'good guys and bad guys'--100% moral or 100% evil. They are the same mix that we all are, some good and some bad; each person trying to find a balance they can live with. Unfortunately the balance some people can live with means OTHER people have to die, so . . .

From back cover: They are called "The Sleeping Women." A series of unsettling paintings in which the nude female subjects appear to be not asleep, but dead. Photojournalist Jordan Glass has another reason to find the paintings disturbing...The face on one of the nudes is her own-or perhaps the face of her twin sister, who disappeared and is still missing. I've read a few of Greg Ilses's books and none of them have really wowed me. For the most part they are well written and the plot is never too overblown, but they never deliver the level of suspense that I'm looking for. I read this one to the end, but thought that it was about 100 pages too long. I have a few more of his books in my TBR pile which I will be donating to the library.

Not as heart-stopping or as provocative as his later works, most notably "Blood Memory", but a well-crafted thriller written in a female first person style, which I think he brings off rather well. This is well worth a read.

Okay, this creepy thriller kept me up nights!!! I could barely put it down for days until I could finish it. Scary plot, cool characters and an interesting romance make this one of my top 5 favorite thrillers. (The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is because of a little too much graphic sex. Sometimes NOT knowing every detail is better.) :O)

Jordan Glass, a photojournalist, visits a Hong Kong museum to see an exhibit of paintings by an anonymous artist that have taken the art world by storm. They are paintings of women who appear to be asleep, but it is rumored that the women are actually dead. Jordan sees one of the pictures and it sends her a shock... the subject of the painting appears to be her sister who has been missing for the past year....

This book kept me guessing and in total suspense as I tried, unsucessfully to solve the crime as the story unfolded. Why would an artist paint portraits of women who appear to be dead? Read the book and find out.

I like Greg Iles. I think he is a super writer of thriller mysteries. I have read almost everything he has written. This book is about a series of paintings that appear and which portray missing women. The plot is about the search to discover the kidnapper.
