If you love westerns read the whole Lonesome Dove series. But they can stand alone too if you prefer to just read this one. I loved Larry McMurtry, he just can mesmorize you and you feel like you are in the old west right along with his characters. I highly recommend this and all of his books.

This is the prequel to Lonesome Dove beginning when Call and Gus are young Texas Rangers.

I love Larry McMurtry's westerns; they have a way of enveloping you until you are no longer reading a book but find yourself along for the ride in the wild west. McMurtry's writing and imagery is so great that the reader can almost hear the crackling of the campfire and feel the character's fear...a great author, a great story.
