Rosenfelt really captures the contrast between towns like Paterson (where I grew up) and the midwest/small towns where I've also spent some time. This is another book that I couldn't put down. I'm really going to miss these characters once I finish the series.

The 5th in the Andy Carpenter series. Rosenfelt still knows how to make you laugh while keeping you interested in a freaky double homicide.

Andy travels to Wisconsin after he gets a call from his ex-girlfriend pleading for his help. A young man has been charged with a double homicide, but she's not convinced that he's guilty.

Another good entry in the series. It was good to see Andy with Laurie again, and as always, I love his sarcastic humor.

This one was pretty good - not my favorite of the series, but still a fun and entertaining read. I liked the weird cult aspect and the ending was certainly a surprise, but there was something missing from this one... maybe because it took place in Wisconsin rather than New Jersey... or maybe because the usual cast of characters wasn't completely there. My only other complaint is that that all of these frame-ups are adding to make a rather ridiculous series and Marcus' "character" has been reduced into nothing more than a deus ex machina. Still, I am looking forward to reading _Play Dead_ since the first thirty pages that prompted me to read this series.

I have yet to read a book by David Rosenfelt that I didn't enjoy. I received "Dead Center" a couple of days ago and I have already finished reading it. Once again, he does not disappoint. His writing style, sense of humor and ability to keep me in suspense will certainly compel me to keep reading more of his publications. He is one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book as well as all of the others he has written.

While I love the Andy Carpenter character and this series, this one would be my least favorite. It's a little off the beaten path, maybe because Andy was out of his element and I had this one figured out too soon. Still, a shocking twist, a few surprises and humorous situations kept it entertaining and enjoyable.

This Andy Carpenter novel has it all: A mystery, loads of humor and eccentric secondary characters. Plainly stated: Andy Carpenter is a hoot! By turns, hes sarcastic and very funny. OK, hes a bit lazy; since inheriting millions, he avoids lawyering if he can.

A happy inhabitant of Paterson, New Jersey, Andy is rousted out of his comfort zone by his one true love Laurie Collins. In a previous story, she moved back to her hometown Findley, Wisconsin, and accepted a promotion to acting chief of police. However, a young man she knows well (Jeremy Davidson) has been charged with a heinous crime slashing two young women (one of whom had just broken up with him). She asks Andy to look the case over.

The case revolves around a religious cult in an adjoining town; everyone in the town belongs to it, including the two dead women. The question is: Are members of the cult responsible for the deaths? This closed society doesn't make it easy for Andy to investigate.

Folks expecting Andy to perform his attorney magic may be disappointed that he does little in the court room. However, it is a great opportunity for regular readers to see the latest with Laurie and Marcus.

Read the Books in order

Too many suspects and Andy gets lost in this. The reader easily can point the finger at the correct person.
If Andy asks you to work for him, decline the offer. Every book someone working on the case or close, dies.

I really like Andy Carpenter--he has money and he really doesn't need the clients but again he takes on a case that looks like he won't win. He is funny and I think of him as cute. His relationship with Laurie is iffy because she has moved back to Wisconsin and is now the acting Chief of Police. Good series, don't miss any of the Andy Carpenter books.

Andy Carpenter has replaced Kinsey Milhone and Stephanie Plum as my go-to light mystery.
