This is the first true crime book I've read by Corey Mitchell. After reading this book, Mitchell comes close to one of my favorite true crime writers, Jack Olsen. This book is about the kidnapping, torture and murder of 2 women in their 20's by Rex Allan Krebs. These women would have still been alive today if Krebs had served his 20 year sentence instead of the 10 he did serve. Krebs was abandoned by his mother and left in the care of his violent, alcoholic father. He started his violence against women at 12 years old, but the authorities think it may have been earlier. After Krebs received a head injury, his crimes became worse. Krebs confessed to the murders of the 2 girls freely and was given the death penalty. He belonged to the minority of sociopaths - the sadistic killer. It is heartbreaking to read how these murders affected the families of the girls. This book is interesting enough without having to go into too much detail about what was done to the girls. The backgounds of the police investigators are brief and the court testimony is concise without losing any pertinent information. The focus of the book is on Krebs himself: his background and long list of crimes "overlooked" by authorities; on the families of the victims; and, on

"A shocking account of rape, torture, and murder on the California coast."
It has 16 pages of the actual photos taken of the victim and some during the investigation, including bloody photos so PLEASE keep that in mind.

This was another example of a registered sex offender getting released from prison and then committing rapes and murders. Two innocent college girls had to pay the price.

This book started out talking about three girls which included a girl named Smart and then her name was dropped. Then mentions a family of three disappearing and then this too is dropped. I am not sure why the author did this, but the rest of the book is well written. I won't repeat what others have written before me but I would like to comment on the head injury. Although the rapist was taken to the hospital and had not only a concussion but brain damage too it seems it wasn't addressed in the hospital. It was mentioned by the defense attorney in the court room but not elaborated on much by the psychiatrist in the court room. This guy was so abused he should have been forced in prison to have psychotherapy. Too many of these type of criminals are set free before there sentence is up.Maybe those poor girls would have been alive today if they hadn't fought back so hard but you never know. This was a good read and worth the time for true crime lovers.

On the night of November 12, 1998, in San Luis Obispo, California, attractive blonde college studen Rachel Newhouse was walking home alone when suddenly a stranger appeared in front of her. His visage was a skull-face: a grotesque Halloween mask.. Beating her unconscious with his fists, the attacker threw her into his pick-up truck, took her to his secluded canyon cabin and raped her--still wearing the mask. On March 11, 1999, in the same town, a stalker who had been shadowing Aundria Crawford, 20, broke into her apartment, pummeled her into insensibility, and carried her away in his truck to his canyon lair. There she was raped, tortured, and murdered.

Corey Mitchell is one of my favorite True Crime writers. He is right up there with Ann Rule and the late Jack Olsen. The story grabs you right from the start. If you like True Crime, you will love "Dead and Buried".

This was a truly despicable individual. I soon got tired of this book, because there was little evidence found, and he was convicted on the basis of his confession. Sadly, he still sits on death row in California over 10 years later.
