Rarely do I not finish a book, even if I dislike it or find it difficult to engage in; but this particular novel not only made me uncomfortable but also angry- this is a pathetic attempt to make women appear totally unprepared to be on their own; while also falling into the old cliche that a man will leave his family behind for the lust of a much younger woman.
If I didnt know "better" I would assume that the author is actually a male.

A spectacularly honest and authentic exploration of a woman's range of emotions after her husband announces at the kitchen table that he is leaving. The novel shocked audiences in Europe with its unsentimental and unyielding depiction of motherhood, marriage and solitude.
