On the day of her mother's death, Rebecca discovers that she has family that she has never met living in Cornwall. She sets out to meet her grandfather and cousin. Her new family greets her very lovingly but only Joss Gardner, the outsider who seems to be the apple of her grandfather's eye, can help her understand the dark currents behind their reception of her. I liked this story and give it an A+!

This was a good book as all hers are, it drew me in, but it was a lot shorter than her later books were.

Great book! I read it in just one day while getting over a cold. As usual, her books are romantic as well as have some mystery.

Rebecca Bayliss is a young London woman working in a book shop. As her mother is dying, she tells Rebecca about the family in Cornwall that she has never known. Rebecca travels to the estate of her grandfather, a once-famous artist, to inform him of the death of his only daughter. Rebecca is a thorougly likeable heroine and is surrounded by a cast of well-defined secondary characters from the cousins to the aunt to the butler. Although written before her more famous novel, "The Shell Seekers," many of the enticing elements of that book are found here---the description of the beach at Cornwall, the artist's studio, and the enigmatic young man who has a profound influence on the main character. This is a most satisfying read for all and a definite must for those of us who can never get enough of Rosamunde Pilcher.

I enjoy all of Rosamunde Pilcher's books this one was no exception.
I like the more modern English story. Regent England gets tiring after awhile.

I have yet to read a book by Rosamunde Pilcher which I haven't enjoyed. She really delves into character development and writes an interesting story, and this one is no exception.
