A good light read. Fills in many of the gaps from the movie although there are parts of the movie that are not in the book. In some ways, the descriptions are far more graphic than depicted in the movie such as how certain characters died. It does repeat the theme of hope, especially at the end. The story is occasionally choppy because it jumps from viewpoint to viewpoint.

Overall, it is a fair read if you are looking for a story that is somewhat predictable but it is an enjoyable story.

The beginning of the end

It's a fiercely hot summer, so hot that the north pole's heat record is broken by fifty degrees. Massive ice melt stuns the world as open ocean appears at the pole for the first time in living memory. Deep under the Atlantic Ocean, currents crucial to life react, dropping south-and suddenly, storms of unprecedented ferocity start exploding over the arctic as cold air returns, slamming into the heat with cataclysmic results. My teenagers enjoyed both the book and movie. It's an easy read - nice for an afternoon at the beach or an occasional rainy day.
