I like the introduction which teaches the difference between primary sources and secondary sources and emphasizes consulting primary sources instead of just accepting what it said about historical figures. Since we have been studying history, I have found that there is quite a bit said (particularly about our founding fathers) that cannot be traced to a primary source. The writer will usually reference another text that is not a primary source. Where did you get your information? is a question we should all be willing to ask. In their own words has excerpts from Davy Crockett's auto-biography, letters from family, court records etc. and it has been both informative and enjoyable for me and my child.
