I have to say that for the book I anticipated most in this series, I am really disappointed. I feel the boy-meets-girl part of the plot is reused from previous LOTU novels; the characters are developed funny, if at all; I still have questions pertaining to Haidee; and I dont get to see any of my other favorite peeps.
I thought the beginning was interesting. You learn a decent amount about Amun and Haidee because theyre confined to a single room with only themselves and a lot of random, seemingly conflicting information. I feel that part was probably difficult to write, but it was nicely done. However, I dont like that the first ¼ of the book is limited solely to that room. Part of the beauty of the series is that you can watch the other characters develop and interact. Keeping Amun and Haidee in that room really got to me after fifty pages and I nearly put the book down. When it does cut to another Lord, its Strider. Dont get me wrong, I love Defeat as much as the next, but I wanted to see the others too. Them being scattered all over creation with different excuses wasnt something I liked either.
There are three scenes I want to comment on. The first is when Amun and Haidee mentally relive her wedding night (while in Hell) using Amuns ability to read minds. Thats cool because it does show some of how Haidee got to be where she is, but it also shows that the Lords were indeed once savage murderers and that now, in comparison, theyre quiet tame.
The second is actually two separate but connected scenes that also took place in Hell. I understand wanting to make Hell a real world instead of just this bottomless, fiery pit, but give me a break. They are safe enough to have sex (and for her to be screaming) and later to alter the physical stone to take a bath? It made me laugh because it took so much away from the reputation of the place and what it could have been in terms of terror and danger. Also the multiple little lady comments didnt do it for me.
The last scene is the one with the Horseman and it is. Just. Strange. After the two suddenly decide to completely abandon the warning not to trust anyone without much ado, theyre brought right to the Horsemen by a little demon who thinks their encounter will be fun. I know you have to up the ante when youre dealing with bad-ass demons but who agrees to have their hands and feet chopped off in a card game, while in Hell? Amun does!
I really wanted to like this book. Amuns story was the one I was looking forward to the most, but I had a hard time enjoying it. I read it mostly because its LOTU. Amun was supposed to be the dark, broody one, but lacked anything romantic or broody. And Haidee was all right, but she didnt have that sizzle, that punch, that other LOTU heroines have had before her.

Well......not my most favorite of the series, I like Amun's story. And Haidee was a very intersting character. Add to that the drama with Strider and his "vacation" with Paris and William and it is not a bad read. My only 'con', is that it was about 50 pages too long for me (its actually 410 pages). Just a little too much dialogue and flash-backs for me. Still a good story though. And I can't wait to see what is in store for Strider.....sounds very interesting. Paris and William have some interesting paths happening in this book also. Its not always a good thing to have bored Lords running around......

I liked Amun and Haidee's story intially. But they were so isolated and so little really happened. Too much inner dialogue. There there was Amun's waffling convictions about he loves her, hates her, wants to protect her, etc. just ran too long. He seemed flaky. The ultimate explanation for Haidee's situation was a letdown and underwhelming. The best part of the book was seeing Paris, William, and Strider. But even then, by the end you just find the Lords' reasons/excuses why they can't be with the one they want just..lame. I wanted to like them but I guess I'm just tired of this series.

Amun...I wondered how his book would develop since he wouldn't speak for fear of sharing his secrets. Gena provided an interesting solution to this problem. Also, she incorporated some of my other favortie character's developing plots (like Paris, William, and Strider).

As much as I love this series this was not my favorite book. I really like the character AMUN but the story was drawn out and never really went anywhere. The book could have been written with 100 pages less and it would have still been the same story without the fluff.
honestly wasn't expecting to like this book as much as the others because we don't really get to have interaction with Amun in the previous books. That being said this exceeded all of my expectations. With each book released I seem to have a new favorite Lord...hey waht can i say I loved them all :-)

This book hooked me from the beginning and never let me down. There was plenty of action througout the book. My oh my Amun sure can get the temperature rising. I loved him. His confrontation with Strider was pretty epic. I never pictured Amun as being so fierce since he is so quiet. But I was wrong. Haidee...she is one tough chick. She never back down even when she might be out matched. The fact that she wears a Hello Kitty shirt is pretty awesome.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I wonder if William will get his own book. I would like to see him and Gilly end up together...of coarse when she is of legal age. I don't know why..I just think she is the only one that might be able to save him from himself. Or at least hope so. I don't think I could like him with someone else.

Wow... I love all of these books, but I think I love this one the most. I've always thought Amun was an intriguing character, even though little has been said about him up to this point. I was furiously blinking away tears at one point... thinking, "Surely this isn't happening this way?!"

Really enjoyed this book and it was a nice surprise because they weren't my favorite characters in the other book. The plot with Galen doesn't really move so this book is really just about Amun and Haidee. Great scenes and lots of humor still. Really fast read.
Can't wait to see what happens to William, Gilly, Paris, Strider, and Sienna.

This book was a gift, and I didn't know it was part of a series when I started it. Since I hadn't read any of the previous books, so I was pretty confused for a while as I read this novel. Some loose ends, but pretty good light porn.

This is another great book in the Lords of the Underworld series. I had always wondered when reading the previous books how Ms. Showalter would handle the problem of Amun not talking, but she did a superb job. I also loved the story lines that surrounded the main story and can't wait to find out they are resolved. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that loves paranormal stories.
