It feels like forever since I have visited the Lords of the Underworld and the tone of this story suited my reading mood perfectly.

Kane is the keeper of the Demon of Disaster. All the Lords of the Underworld carry their Demons but Kane has really been kind kept on the outside of things do to the nature of his beast. His Demon acts up and causes more damage during situations the others are trying to clean up. He has spent the last several weeks being tortured and raped in hell. He gets rescued by Josephina, a Fae, who extracts a promise from him that he finds impossible to keep.

If this is your first look into the Underworld, you really do need to start at book one. So much happens in each story and in this series that I feel if anyone started out of order theyd be lost. I loved Kane and Josephina, or Tink as he affectionately calls her. I loved their friendship and uncovering the layers to Tinks crazy life. But what I really enjoyed about this book was the glimpses of stories to come and the way everything melded together. There are a lot of surprises and a few twists, too.

I adore the Lords of the Underworld and their women and this book was an excellent contribution to a favorite series!

I honestly am stunned that this book has received good ratings! I have LOVED the Lords books up until now but Kane's story was butchered. This is one of the worst books I have EVER read. And I don't mean just worst of the Lords of the Underworld series. Total disappointment, not just the story line, but the quality of the writing. It seems like either this book was of zero importance to Gena or another author wrote it under her name. As in, an author in elementary school. And not one of those super talented young authors, one of those regular folks forced to come up with something to squeak through 5th grade!

I was wondering how Showalter was going to do Kane's story. It was pretty clever, sweet at times, sometimes teary, but most of all funny dialogue. Even though the series is supposed to be about the Lords, it's really the women the books feature. They make the books.

Tinker had some great lines because she is innocent in a really sweet way. She also super resourceful and you kind of have to respect that since she is not on top of the food chain. I love how the Lords now have fan pages and epic stories written about them.

Great, fast read.

My favorite line: "You did too! Your eyes begged me, and you can't deny it. You couldn't see your eyes, so you have no idea what they were doing."
