I was told that A Taste of Crimson was the best of this series and that the rest were stinky but, of course, I didn't listen to my wise friends and went ahead and read this one. And were they ever right.
This book is about a young woman, Claudine (Claudette? Sorry her name escapes me) who at 25 is a cop, a mother of a 10 year old daughter and lives in a world where vampires and werewolves are commonplace. While investigating a crime scene she becomes entangled with a demon who brings her to his world. Soon she discovers her daughter has been kidnapped by the demons as well because Claudia (I think that's the name) is able to "open the portal" between the worlds. Why her and how do the demons know, anyway? Don't ask me. Fortunately for her she has very big breasts, huge brown eyes and a gorgeous, ancient vampire is on her side and helps her slay the demons. Some girls have all the luck.
Though this book didn't grab me with its wit or imaginative plot it sure as heck managed to annoy me. The dialogue is awful, the characters very substandard and the plot sketchy and difficult to follow. The heroine's daughter has been kidnapped but I felt nothing as there's very little in the way of character development and Claudine is far too busy lusting over gorgeous demons (who woo her with mind tricks) and vampires to dwell on the fact that her daughter may be suffering atrocities (after all, she is being held by lusty demons).
This books worst sin, however, is the fact that it's boring. Most of the story features the vampire and the forgetful heroine running for their lives from demons, in between pauses to reflect on how beautiful they think each other are. It just plods on and on. Not at all recommended unless you're stuck in a room with people you wish to avoid and only have this book as a means to escape them . . .

"A Supernatural Romantic Thriller". Pshyco! Girl likes Vampire, but Demon likes Girl, and Vampire likes Girl, but Girl likes Demon... Super kick butt girl is drawn into a demon world with vampire and has super sex with both while her city (LA, of course) is in the middle of a war between humans, werewolves, and vampires with the demons trying to take over. Too weird... hahaha...

Be aware this book is the fourth in a series about Crimson City and not all books are by Carolyn Jewel, Liz Maverick, Marorie liu, Patti O'shea were the others (hope I'm not breaking a rule) These books are very good. A city with Vampires living high above the city below, Werewolves living under and humans living in the middle. I'm waiting for the next book to show itself so I hope you understand this is a good series.
Crimson City, the former City of Angels, is on the brink of war among humans, vampires, and werewolves, and police officer Claudia Donovan is caught in the middle. Things couldn't get much worse, and yet they do. Her child is kidnapped, and Claudia discovers another faction threatening to destroy whatever last tie to peace Crimson City has. Demons do exist, and they're ready to spill into the city to take control. Her only ally is the vampire Tiber Korzha, and he may be the greatest, sweetest danger of all. Jewel takes her turn contributing to the multiauthor Crimson City series, a series that has been slowed down by seemingly dropped story lines and characters who really needed a nod in this fourth installment. Jewel adds to the confusion by sacrificing a strong secondary character. However, the heart of this novel still beats strongly with pulse-pounding action, well-drawn characters, and sexy romance.

This was a really good book. I read the series out of order, but even so, I was able to follow it fine. I liked the characters, and the storyline was good as well.

A great paranormal romance.....
I listened to this book as an audiobook and loved it. Sometimes the way authors name characters annoys me--too many Tiffanys and Donovans, but Claudia, Tiber, and Lathe just sounded right. The book starts off with powerful action and characters--another plus. Claudia is sympathetic as a single mom and police officer just trying to make it. She isn't described as gorgeous right away and she is choosy about boyfriends.
if you like the crimson city saga, you will love this book.lots of new characters.but some of the old favorites make an appearance
Good read!!
This book was sort of dark, just like Crimson City itself. I loved it! The vampire is absolutely yummy!
This book is part of a series written by different authors. The series is as follows:
#1 Crimson City - Liz Maverick
#2 A Taste of Crimson - Marjorie M. Liu
#3 Through a Crimson Veil - Patti O'Shea
#4 A Darker Crimson - Carolyn Jewel
#5 Seduced by Crimson - Jade Lee
#6 Crimson Rogue - Liz Maverick
#7 Shards of Crimson (anthology) - Liz Maverick, Patti O'Shea, Carolyn Jewel, Jade Lee
#8 Crimson & Steam - Liz Maverick
I've read through the sixth book, I give them all somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. Not bad, not the greatest thing I've ever read.
