Nothing new here, just a well told tale. Sydony and her brother Kit have inherited Oakfield after the death of their scholar father. The father of their childhood friend Barto, now a viscount, died in the same "accident". There's a mystery attached to deserted Oakfield, with its ruined, overgrown maze and Druidic associations. Odd doings in the middle of the night, skulls in the floorboards, frightened servants and neighbors, and a growing attraction between Syd and Barto keep things moving. Not the greatest regency or the greatest gothic I ever read, but a nice way to while away the evening before Halloween.

Tries to be both a mystery novel and a romance novel and fails. The mystery is not strong enough to class the book as such, and the romance isn't strong either.
