Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a weenie when it comes to scary books or movies and this book was plenty scary for me. It got so bad that I had to skip right to the end to make sure that everyone that I liked made it through alright. I pro'ly won't be reading anymore of his books:)

This was a good book.. kept me turning the pages, however, it had much more potential.... overall a good book by Saul, but not his best one.

It waited 7 years fo someone to come back to the rambling lakeside house called Pinecrest, which has stoodempty since its owner went missing. for Dan and Merrill, the place is a ideal retreat, for their kids ,eric and Marci, a place to explore during the lazy summer. Which is how Eric and his teenage friends discover the curios cache of discarder objects stowed in a hidden room of Pinecrest'scarriage house. the bladeless hacksaws, shadeless lamps, tables with missing legs, headless axe handle, and other unremarkable items add up to junk.Yet someone took the trouble to inventory each worthless relic in a cryptic ledger. It has all the makings of a great mystery- whispering, coaxing, demanding to be solved.....

I definitely have mixed emotions about this one. Not what I consider a good read, but not one to just set aside either. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd probably rate it about a 3.

I did enjoy the read, satisfying ending, but it didn't hit the mark for me as others of his that I really enjoyed better, like Manhattan Hunt Club.

For Chicago couple Dan and Merrill Brewster, a summer at pinecrest, a rambling lakeside house, is an ideal vacation, and for their kids, Eric and Marci, Pinecrest is the perfect place to spend some time exploring. Eric and his friends descover a curious cache of objects stowed in a hidden room, but the boy's strange fascination with the forgotten possessions soon becomes an obsession. When a horrifying discovery surfaces, so does the chilling truth about the terrifying events that rocked the town seven years before, the mysterious disappearance of Pinecrest's previous resident, and a twisted legacy with a malevolent life of its own...and a bottomless hunger for new victims.

This is your typical John Saul book - spooky house in a small town, undisclosed secrets, etc.

It's okay - not really all that riveting - good way to pass the time.

My sister insisted that I read this book. She claimed that it is "sooooo good". While it was good, it wasn't his best. Sort of mediocre.
