I really enjoyed this audiobook. I listen to A LOT of audiobooks and for me the reader is as important as the author, John Sanford's storyline. Eric Conger, an award winning reader, really brought this book to life. As a crime novel, this one is better than most. It is more plot than character driven though the protagonist is quite well developed and believable. Virgil Flowers, in his obvious role as a law enforcement officer, has the right levels of sardonic humor, empathy intelligence and cunning for someone in that role. If you like the crime novel genre, I think you'll really get into this audiobook.

This is the first book in the Virgil Flowers series by John Sanford. really liked this book. Virgil is quite a different character than Lucas Davenport. He is more easy going, laid back, and thought provoking than Lucas Davenport. I like both characters. Virgil is more the hippie type with long blond hair, wears cowboy boots, goes fishing a lot, and likes the women. So far this series looks good!
