This book was so awful. Like eating a pound of those orange squishy circus peanuts bad. The plot was predictable, but that's not unusual in a romance novel. It was the characters I couldn't stand. They were so annoying! So shallow! So dumb!

Savannah is a complete twit, throwing one temper-tantrum after another. She supposedly knows that her intended lifemate, Gregori, will go mad and succumb to true vampirism without her, and then either be killed or kill god knows how many other people, but she spend several chapters whining about how she wants to be free, would rather die. Gack. Spoiled, selfish bint. Even when she finally comes around about the lifemate bond, she's swinging wildly between 'I want to help you kill our enemies' and 'oh, violence, this is so terrible I can't bear it!' Gregori is no better. He's forcing his will on her from begining to end, treating her like a child (can't blame him there, she acts like one) and glowering at everybody while inwardly wallowing in guilt and angst about what a monster he is, simply because he's killed so many vampires, all of whom were unremmittingly, irredemibly evil.
Then there's Gary, their new human friend. Seems Gregori has existed thousands of years, learned how to navigate the human world to the point where he can run multiple companies and buy properties, etc, but has never met a human he liked before. And while I am on this rant I want to complain about this thing about male Carpathians not being able to feel emotions without their lifemates and this is what sends them over the edge to become vampires, just so they can feel emotions. Despair is not an emotion? Longing to feel isn't? And Feehan can't be bothered to learn anything about anything! Savannah is supposedly a famous stage magician, but it seems she cheated by using her inborn powers. She never thinks about magic again after teaming up with Gregori, never does any slight of hand or lets it be important to the plot except as a cover for vampire weirdness later in the game. Gary is suposedly a genius biochemist but all he ever thinks about is how he was bullied in high school.

Drivel. Absolute trash.

The fourth book in this series and it was wonderful. I thought she did a wonderful job with the rough times that the hero went through when he found his lifemate.

No Magic Here!
Since I've read nothing but glowing recommendations for Ms. Feehan's "Dark" series, I decided to try this book. I was barely 100 pages into it when I was overwhelmed by Gregori. He may be dark, dangerous and sexy but he was also overbearing, arrogant and violent. He was worse than a stalker, following her to the ends of the earth, using the powers of his mind to force her to do things "for her own good" and his violent first encounter with her completely went against my idea of romance. I've read "forced seductions" but to me this was all out rape. If she could have gotten to a police station and showed them the blood and bruises, I have no doubt this "hero" would be serving a life sentence! Sorry, no magic for me here.

This book was a great read. With a blend of mystery, magic, romance and vampires, it was great for the paranormal romance lover. Ms. Feehan has a wonderful way of telling a rich, very intriguing love story!

I like Feehan's Dark Series, but after four books they are a bit formulaic and repetitious. As escapist romance the books work well, but if you are looking for something more in keeping with genre of vampire fiction Feehan isnt the place to go.

I have some serious complaints about Dark Magic. In my opinion Gregoris claiming of Savannah as his life mate is rape. The scene is very brutal. Why on earth did Feehan steal the ma petite endearment from Laurell Hamilton? Gregori isnt even French. The Café du Monde is famous for beignets (a fried pastry coated in powdered sugar) not baguettes (a long, thin loaf of French bread). Has Feehan even been to Café du Monde?! She seriously needs a better editor.

Savannah Dubrinksi meets her Carpathian lifemate: Gregori, the Dark One, the most powerful of all the ancients. Gregori, of course, finds himself befuddled by Savannah. This book wasn't as good as the previous 3 in the series, because it was the same thing over again: powerful domineering Carpathian male meets his lifemate, who rejects him at first, but then succumbs to his advances. They are endanged by vampires or vampire hunters and end up having to work together to save themselves.

Gregori is the single most powerful and ancient of Carpathians. A hero for his people, a great hunter protecting both human and Carpathian alike. He is on the brink of turning, having endured centuries of a cold emotionless existence. Brave Savanah, daughter of their Prince loves him with heart and soul and refuses to release him to the darkness. Feehan strikes again!

First things first - don't read this book if you are expecting a vampire tale a la Ann Rice or even Amanda Ashley - there are elements both of those types of stories in Feehan's books, but they really are their own genre. Vampire purists will not enjoy these stories, but if you like a book heavy on romance and intimacy, with a paranormal twist, you'll absolutely love Feehan. As purely escapist fiction, I rank the Dark series at the top of my list! Very much like J.D. Robb's Death series, these are characters who are larger than life and stories that will have you reading the books over and over.

Cute and Refreshing.

Savannah is Gregori, the dark one's, lifemate. He has known this all her life because he inadvertantly becomes "best friends" with her when she is a child. And so their connection grows so Gregori can ensure his partnership with Savannah. On her 18th birthday, Gregori vows to give her five years of freedom so she isn't shackled to him right away. So, with one kiss that leaves her breathless and dizzy, he removes himself from her life and makes a home in California in the mountains. He knows he is becoming more dangerous with age, and being away from humans and others like him will decrease the chance of him harming anyone until Savannah is brought to his side.

I was looking forward to this one since 'Dark Desire'. I was a little curious to see what Gregori had done to Mikhail and Raven's child when an incident arose, and Raven almost died.

Savannah is adventurous and spunky; She's just what Gregori needs after all his years of unrestfulness. She really brought Gregori to life. And it was so sweet. It was cute to see Gregori 'allow' Savannah to be his sidekick as much as possible without her being in danger. It kept me entertained and on the edge of my seat to find out what came next.

Truly an adorable tale.

I read the first three books in the series, and I couldn't wait to read the fourth book because it was about one of my favorite characters, Gregori. Well, I started reading it, and I agree with some of the other reviews in the fact that these books get a little repetitive. Not only that, but Gregori's "claiming" of Savannah was pretty awful. Truth be told, I couldn't even finish it after that. This will be the last book of this series that I read :(.

4th in the "Dark" series - Gregori and Savannah's (Mikhail & Raven's daughter) story.

Synopsis from back cover: Young Savannah Dubrinski was a mistress of illusion, a world famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there was one - Gregori, the Dark One - who held her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality sent shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine.

With a dark magic all his own, Gregori - the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males - whispered in Savannah's mind that he was her destiny. That she had been born to save his immortal soul. An now, here in New Orleans, the hour had finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time....and as inescapable as eternity.

I have to say not one of Feehan's best of the series but still a good read. Don't read this one before the first three in series....you get more background info about his character.

Not as good as I'd anticipated. Still nice to see that Gregori is saved from eternal darkness. It just would have been a better story if Savannah had been more interested in saving him. Her father is the Prince after all, and she did have a duty to her people. Gregori is 2nd in command, incredibly powerful and hot as can be. It's just not believable that she wasn't attracted to him until he tried to rape her. This series as a whole is fantastic though... so keep reading.

Like all her books this is just as good.
The DARK Series is now up to about 23 books,
I [me] have finally come to an end.
Although I like her books this is a little much.
The series may have worn a little thin.

This one was great as it brought you up to date on the daughter of the Prince. I am partial to strong men LOL and this one was absolutely delicious. The loss of control, the exhibition of powers (better than a Super Hero), the melding of two completely different persons and the introduction of old and new characters. YUMMY!

The other Ccarpathian males who had hoped to mate with her now seemed like callow youths in comparson.Gregori, the dark one, took Savannah's breath and turned her body to Hot liqued, making her want things she had never in her virginal life dreamed of. You belong to me, and no other. He spoke the words in her head.

While I enjoy Feehan's Carpathian series, for some reason this book just didn't "grab" me as much as her other ones. Perhaps because the heroine's immaturity became annoying... Nevertheless, the hero, Gregori, is delicious as are pretty much all of Feehan's Carpathian heroes!
