Tenth in the series featuring Duncan Kincaid of Scotland Yard and Gemma James of the Metropolitan Police. Multiple plot lines intersect here. Kincaid is asked to look at an arson case; a body was found in the burned building of a prominent politician and Kincaid is supposed to smooth any fuss. James does a favor for a friend and looks into the disappearance of a handicapped woman's flatmate. The missing flatmate matches the preliminary description of the corpse - as does the missing daughter of the politician - not to mention both the girlfriend AND the wife of a man whose daughter is missing. Enough missing people for ya? Liked the action and the solution, it kept me guessing. What I didn't like was the subplot about Kincaid's custody hearing with Kit. He misses it because he goes to a murder scene. C'mon...Crombie made it a huge thing in their lives, Kincaid had someone to cover for him, it's not like he is the only investigator in Scotland Yard. It wasn't believable to me that he wouldn't send someone else. Seemed like just a way for Crombie to keep that going for another book. Other than that, still liking this series.
