This is the fifth installment in Kresley Cole's wonderful Immortals After Dark series, and its one of her finest. It follows the tale a Holly, a half-Valkyrie who was raised as a human. Her neat and tidy world is turned upside down when she meets Cadeon, a demon mercenary, who informs her that not only is she an immortal, she is also the "Vessal"--a rare woman who in the coming war will bare a child of either ultimate good or evil. He offers her protection, but has ulterior motives that threaten the fragile relationship developing between them.

I was amused by both characters. Cadeon is extremely funny and hot. Holly is smart and quirky, and it's fun to watch her develop a backbone. My only complaint with this book was that the ending was a bit rushed and unsatisfactory, but it's definitely worth reading anyway.

This is only my second Immortals After Dark book that I've read, but after this one, I can't wait to work through the entire series! It was great watching the tightly wound Holly loosen up and figure out who she was meant to be. Cade was so sexy, and watching the many ways he got under her skin was a lot of fun.

It almost makes you wish there really was this "other" world...

I really enjoyed this book, the characters in it had great personalities. Even thought Cade is a pit of a rake, and old fashioned pig... you can't help but fall in love with him. He is the perfect amount of bad boy and good guy... if only he were real... (sigh).
Though I felt a little scandleized by the sex scenes, the book was enjoyable. Cant wait to read the other books in the series. Cole continues to offer great books to read... She is definately one of my favorite authors.

This is probably my least favorite of the series. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did I found it quite enjoyable. Cade & Holly are so opposite that you really do wonder if they will ever get it together in the end.
As a note: although all the books overlap, this one really should be read before Kiss of a Demon King. Not only are they brothers, but theirs lives & fates truly do intersect.

Absolutely recommend it!!!
I loved this book, it was impossible to put down. Cade is quite the character! He and Holly make a great pair! She has OCD, and he is a bit messy, but very protective of her.

This was my very first Kresley Cole book to read and although it is the 5th in the series the book is easily a stand-alone. The book does mention characters from the past but they don't necessarily take a huge role in this one nor do their appearances spoil the other books for the reader.
This book is about a rage demon who needs to produce the "Vessel" to get his brother's kingdom back. What he doesn't realize is that the Vessel is essentially his soul mate and a Valkyrie. I was so involved in this story that I never wanted to book to end. Lucky for me I have two other books of Cole's and two more on the way.
For those who enjoy a good paranormal read and has yet to discover this author...run out and get them now!!!

I had no problem with this book, despite some negative reviews. I am glad I took the chance to read it.

It was a bit different than Cole's usual but I loved it :)

Fun read. I agree that these books are addicting. You don't have to read them in order because everything kind of happens all at once, but I would definitely read the first two first to get a handle on who/what/when/how.

Cade was so naughty you have to love him. Towards the middle I got a little tired of Holly's prissiness but that faded. I agree that the end was rushed but still enjoyable.

My favorite character in this series is Nix. Can't wait to read more from this series.

Another great page turner. I simply can not put Kresley Cole's books down. I am very addicted. This was a very compelling story. I wasn't that big on the Woede brothers from book #3 but after reading this book, I am really liking their characters.

I really love when authors can create complex and intriguing characters. Cole certainly accomplishes this. I love her witty sense of humor too...although sometimes she makes references to things that I am ignorant of.

She also has a repetitive theme in all her books; chauvinism vs. feminism. It sometimes has me rolling my eyes. Although I don't think the heroes are chauvinistic but the females are utter feminist. They always have to accomplish something on their own in each book. What irritates me is that in each book the hero has this undying love for the heroine and would do anything for her yet, the heroine doesn't share this unconditional love back. It's as if they can move on with life with or without their true love. That is so annoying because it makes her female characters very shallow.

...but still a fun and highly recommendable read.

Oh, Cade.
Such a man's demon. I love how real (and yet not) Cole is able to make her characters. Cade is very masculine and Holly starts out pretty uptight. It's so fun to read these two and how frustrated they make each other and yet at the same time wanting to jump on top of each other. Parts of the read were somewhat predictable but SO enjoyable they didn't detract from the story at all. I read it over and over if for no other scene than the driving fast in the sports car scene...... but, I won't spoil it! Read it for yourself!

Another winner in this series. H/h have fantastic chemistry, the obstacles to their romance are convincing and the love story plays out at just the right pace. As with all the books in the IAD series, there is plenty of hot sex to keep everything interesting.

This series is fast outpacing Black Dagger Brotherhood and True Blood as my favorite paranormal series. It has fun, great romantic characters, strong women, steamy love scenes, and lots of action.

Keep 'em coming Kresley Cole!

I enjoyed this book! Each book in the series seems to be better than the last. Cade is one hot hero! And you have to love a heroine who is a college math instructor that is OCD (I am both, so I could REALLY relate!).

Cadeon is the prince of the rage demons, and his brother is the King, well he would be if Cade hadn't lost his crown. Holly is a OCD math wiz, professor, and severely repressed human/Valkyrie. She doesn't know she is a Valkyrie until she is attacked by another group of demons because she just happens to be one of the keys to the lore ascension. When she gets attacked, she turns, and then well...you can read it for yourself.

Anyway, I like Cade's character a lot, he has been one of my favorites for awhile, since we first met him. He is a sarcastic chauvinistic ass and he is just hilarious. I like how Holly starts to open up and accept everything and she learns who is is in the process. I still really dislike Rydstrom (Cade's brother) but maybe there will be some explanations in his book, which is next. There is some awesome plot in this book...and I am excited to see more of these characters later...but what I really want is Nix to have a book. Just sayin.

At first the idea of a demon in love seems a bit out there (yeah like a vamp and were doesn't) but the story really worked. Cade has become one of my favorite heroes.

What's with the cheesy 1980s style romance cover?

I get really tired of the virginal or nearly virginal heroine with the man-whore hero. It's an over used cliche. This story has a hero and heroine in those molds. That aside, I enjoyed the story. Parts of it reminded me of Cole's other book "A Hunger Like No Other". Both heroines are very innocent, born in the current era but still so unaware of all that life has to offer them and they both find their Lorekind abilities very late in the story. Dark Desires has good dialog, humor and smoking hot love scenes. I never complain about the latter. The hero is likable even though he is a rogue, a liar a lot of the time. The heroine isn't as likable. She's got a stick up her you know what most of the time. There were too many scenes with pearl clutching and gasping because the hero used profanity. Yet the heroine teaches college math to football players. Really? She hasn't heard any "bad" words from them. She seemed like she was 80 years old instead of in her 20s. I realize the character is supposed to be a prude at the start of the book, but her characterization felt like caricature. She should have made the hero beg and grovel more at the end. I would have and would have enjoyed very minute of it too, but that's how I roll.

What can I say, Fabulous! Ms. Cole hits it out of this world again. Cade and Holly are great two people so different yet perfect for each other. I really love the stories the author weave around her characters it's not just boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love. She gives these characters really problems to face Cade has issues this his brother just like the rest of do, maybe on a more long term basis but issues just the same. Holly's issue are real and Cade's understanding of them is tender. I couldn't put this book down. Again Nix rocks I can't wait for her story.
