It sounded interesting ~ but the book was a jumbled mess of characters & ideas. Too much info & various characters which seem to pop out of nowhere made this a difficult book to read. Honestly, I had to make myself finish it rather than just skip to the end.

horrid book. I made it to page 132 and gave up! The writing style was horrendous. The character was wussy and didn't care when bad things happened to her. She had no reaction. Just oh this bad thing happened so I think I'll leave town. I still don't know the motive of why one bad thing happened to her. I found myself rereading paragraphs and still not understanding what was happening.

Horrible, horrible book. I made myself finish it. Why? I'm not sure! I think I was just hoping it would get better! Even the grammar sucked! I mean how many exclamation marks can a women use in a book!? I'm not sure I've even seen so many! It was very annoying! Have I made my point?!

I had a hard time finishing this one. The premise of the book was good, but there's something missing in the execution. It almost feels as though the author was so busy trying to create a "new" spin on the supernatural world that she forgot that character developement and a strong story line were necessary for a good book.

Horrible book. Great premise, poor execution. Even the grammar sucked and this is an experienced author. I have no idea what went wrong. I can never get back the hours wasted on this book. Enjoy life and read something else you won't be sorry.

This was not a good book. Some of the author's ideas seemed promising, but the story itself was a mess. I had to force myself to finish it. I would not recommend it, and will not be picking up the sequel.

I found this book interesting and aggravating at the same time. Paranormal investigator Delilah Street is one of those females that something is always happening to - getting attacked by werewolves (more than once), getting kidnapped by werewolves, being held captive again by werewolves, getting arrested for no reason. It seemed like everyone wanted a piece of her whether it was sexual or not, she wasn't safe anywhere. It got annoying after a while.

The story seemed to drag on and on back and forth between the courtship of Delilah and Ric Montoya (a water witch who finds dead bodies) and the werewolves and vampire war from years ago. A little too much of everything just seemed to muddle up the works. Zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghouls, half-breeds, fey and the werewolf mob who runs Las Vegas. And the many many references to old-time movie stars got on my last nerve. At one point, Perry Mason himself was her lawyer. I mean come on.

I enjoyed the storyline but IMO it had too much crammed into one story. This is a series, I think some of this stuff could have been worked into another book. Oh well, that's just my opinion.

Douglas has a new take on the idea of the paranormal coming out of the closet. At the change of the millenium, werewolves, vampires, zombies all appeared on the current scene, and results weren't always peaceful. Witches with psychic powers also emerged, along with others whose origin and powers are almost totally unknown.
Vampires and werewolves are feuding over the ownership of the lucrative territory of Las Vegas, the Sin City, and the losers will most likely be eaten.
Delilah Street, an investigative reporter with issues of her own, gets caught up in the middle of the Vampire/Werewolf battle, and does her best to avoid becoming anyone's snack food.
This is the first of a planned series, and the author has perhaps tried to introduce a little too many new ideas at once. The story is a good one, but there are some odd loose ends and still many mysteries unsolved... Which may well be deliberate to leave room for the upcoming volumes to clear up.

I did not read this book in one sitting. That to me,is the sign of an awesome read. However, it took me a few days. I did like it. I will be wishlisting the next installment to give the author a second chance.

This book has a great story but at times seems to get sidetracked.... not as good as I had hoped it would be.

I'm not sure everyone will find the sensuality to their taste, and the storyline eventually lost me. It's written well and with enthusiasm, but the plot is wandering, and there is a lot of time spent on how everyone seems sexually attracted to the mysterious heroine.

The premise of this book made me curious, so I ordered it. It was a little confusing at first, but the book draws you in. The main character is unique and daring. I really enjoyed the explanation as to how supernatural characters came to be blatantly co-mingling with the everyday human. I look forward to getting to know Delilah Street and her co-characters better in future books.

I think I found another favorite series. I bought the 3rd book at Doller General Store. After reading it I was hooked and looked for Bk1 & Bk2 on Paperbackswap. Found them and they were as good as the first one I read. Vegas is full of werewolves, vampires, mummies and zombies!Plus CimSims(you gotta read this series)to really get the description of how CimSims are made.

This book started off kinda slow and about 1/3rd of the way through picked up pace and kept my interest. By the end I was glad I stuck with it and I look forward to the sequel.

This was a good paranormal fantasy. I liked the mix of the mysterious and supernatural in the Las Vegas setting. I also liked Delilah's interactions with Hector, her familiar Quicksilver, Ric and the CineSims. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Brimstone Kiss.

I agree that you are left with unanswered questions after reading this book, but I liked the new take on the paranormal. The heroine doesn't understand everything that is going on as it happens either, and we get to find out bits and pieces along with her. I will definitely be reading book 2 to see what happens next. If you like lots of clarity take a pass on this one, but if you enjoy the ambiguity that some werewolves are "good" and some are "bad" (just like humans) and are okay with not knowing the species of some of the characters, give this a read.

This may be the beginning of a fun new series. I'm looking forward to the next book. Delilah Street is a young women with a lot of questions about her history. She moves to Las Vegas to try and find out the answers to those questions. While in Vegas she realizes she has more questions than answers to her history, but has a hot new love interest who has his own secrets.

Talk about a 'different' read. The writing style is...unique. It seemed like the author was writing about some otherworldly thing that we as readers know nothing about, and she forgot to tells us what it was, continuously throughout the book. Things would be randomly described, like web like tendrils coming off of a girl. WHAT? What does that even mean? Especially without any indication that there was something 'otherly' about her before. Jumps around a lot. Basically the main question, giving the book it's purpose, was left unanswered. Probably won't be continuing with the series.

Orphan Delilah is a funky, witty narrator with a real flare for finding trouble - and getting herself out of it. The side characters such as ghoulish Hector Nightwine and mysterious corpse diviner Ric, are well-realized and just as interesting as Del herself. The plot sucks you in and the writing style - although sometimes rambling - is always engaging. The new twist on creatures like zombies and werewolves, and Del's own developing supernatural gifts, are fascinating.

It was readable. I felt there were a lot of loose ends such as her dog. He definitely did not act like a normal dog. I kept expecting him to be outed as a were-dog, but didn't happen. Catchy title, but she only went dancing at the same place they were a couple of times and she didn't actually dance with any of them. I doubt I will read any more of this series.
